Hey everyone.. well its been a bit of a testing time of late to be honest.. ive had a bit of trouble with a back problem which has been really playing havoc with my hamstring.. quite frustrating to be honest, but i think we are slowly getting it sorted out now and i hope to be back racing at the tour of poitou charante.

its really important for me to be at this race as its the only race ill do before missouri.. so my aim here will be to rediscover my racing legs i had in the tour de france, and try and improve my form leading up to missouri and the world road championships..

i know the form will come quick, i feel super strong from the tour still, its amazing what 3 weeks of heavy racing can do to ones body.. still not having raced for a while the body will get a shock (or five) but hey…. all good for form!

after missouri i wont race again before worlds, ill be doing some heavy training though with some motor pacing to get me ready for the demands of a 6-7hr one day race. im confident that my form will be super when the worlds come around so im looking forward to getting stuck in and fully focusing on the biggest one day race in the world.

on the home front wee moses is doing great.. angie too, and she seems to have lost her tum which is a huge disappointment for me cause i actually got used to it! his eyes are really strong now, and im guessing over time they will develop into some strong brown eyes just like his dad. it still really amazes me that im now a father, and with that all these new responsibilities start coming… its great though, and im at a stage in my life where im really ready for it all too..

the weather here in lucca is stinking hot, like tooooo hot to be honest! this year we have just got by with no air con, an apartment which aint huge either.. next year though we are having it all! big apartment, space, air con. the whole lot…. we are seriously thinking of a move to nice also, so if anyone has some contacts let me know..

thanks for reading, ill update again soon. ciao!

Hey there people. i thought i would let you know how things are going my end. my goal for this website is to keep the updates coming so my fans get the inside scoop on everything.. i often remember looking at websites from time to time and seen they hadnt been updated and i was like ‘ooooooh come on!’. not this site, i will try to update you on everything that goes on in my life, both good and bad, and you wont just hear from me if i feel good in a race or get a result ok!

anyway.. ive had easier times trying to find the form in my legs after a tour i can tell you. it hasnt been easy, mind you the week following the tour was anything but relaxing with all the excitement of our baby moses… by the way he is doing great! my legs have been dead since the tour and all i can say is thank god i havent been racing!

in the last week though i have started to do some more serious training and i am feeling alot better. i reckon i feel the strength from the tour which is a great sign.. im just concentrating on getting back some speed into my legs with some power.. im not riding overly long, for now only 3.5hrs. i figure i did about 4000kms in july so endurance isnt what i need.. im just focusing on maintaining what i come out of the tour with..

my next race is still 9 days away and by then i feel i will be in pretty good nick.. far out its amazing to think that its already august and soon the worlds will be happening, then paris tours then its home time.. unreal how fast the year can go. im still unsure as to what is happening re next season. i hope to have some news in the coming weeks and ill let you know asap..

now if any of you would like to hear about a certain something, or if you have an idea to make my website better again then let me know..

oh and i just about forgot. i have to say a massive thanks to metasolutions for this website. im really happy with it and you guys did a great job..

Hey everyone.

I just wanted to thank you all for the kind words and wishes for us with the birth of our baby boy moses..

both ange and moses are doing great and we are loving every minute of it.. its amazing just how fast everything happens when the time is near. one minute i was leaving for the tour de france and the next i was in the delivery room waiting for the birth of our boy. it really is such a special time and im personally loving every second. i cant believe one week has passed already though… just one week old and i still can barely take my eyes off him…. amazing.

its also now time for me to start re focusing on the rest of the season. its really flying by and before i know it ill be back in new zealand for the offy. my next race is tour de limousin, followed by gp plouay.. after that i head to the tour of missouri and then back for some last minute training pre worlds. its going to be an exciting next few months for us all and im really motivated to finish the season with a bang. heres hoping for the best

thanks for reading.

Well i heard alot of stories about the last stage into paris but nothing compared to actually doing it myself. It was a special day and i can now see why this last stage has no attacks. why theres no urgency to be in the front line for the start. even getting to stop for a pee in the cross wind…. oh and lollies in the feed bag! what a day of treats! the day was about celebrating the 3 weeks whether you won or lost, then putting on a big show after we passed the line for the first time on the champs elysees.

for the first 100kms we just rode side by side. we caught up with everyone who we hadnt really spoke a heap with cause of one reason or another during the tour.. we laughed, joked and rode at a crawling pace of 30-35kms an hour.. mind you though, when the mind says no, initially that 30-35k/hr still hurts but then once everything warms up its all fun and games..

you could feel the peleton heat up as we approached paris. it was just full of energy, and rearing to go.. like a bull in a pen really. we had been relaxing all day and then about to be set loose on perhaps the most famous street in the world.. and the best thing was the hundreds of thousands of spectators watching and yelling as if they knew each one of us individually.

there isnt alot to report about the actual outcome.. it was hard to do anything in the finale. i was always there, but then got shuffled back. i punctured and had to get back on and hearing the crowd roar whilst i was chasing gave me goosebumps.. again i clawed my way back up the field then got shuffled back.. i decided to just stay there, and watch.. andreas looked after thor, and he was right where he needed to be.. cav won again and man what an impressive sprint that was. thor won the green which was equally impressive if you ask me. he had to work extremely hard for this but showed just how classy he is with some of the rides during the 3 weeks..

my first tour was complete and i can say that i was very happy to have done what i did.. the tour is the biggest event in the world. it was my first crack at it.. now i fully believe my future lies here in this race, doing what i do not know.. but we will find out soon.. i was blown away with the race and how anything achieved here is like gold..

i rate my ride up ventoux as my best effort… my legs werent great this day but i got better as the climb went on.. to me it showed there is more in there if i want to find it.. the 3rd i achieved was great and i am very happy with this. of course i was hunting the top spot, but i missed out due to smart riding from someone who is very experienced. however, i knew how strong i was that afternoon and i was close.. ill try again!

one of the highlights of the tour for me was seeing wiggans knock it up with the worlds best.. this has helped me believe that all is possible and to limit yourself to nothing. the best moment in the race was on ventoux when the front group caught me. that was unreal, and was right in my face. i passed a comment on to lance which we laughed about in the stage today… being caught by those guys was awesome and just felt like all was in such slow motion.

a special thing happened today before the last stage. carlos gave each of us one of his numbers.. a number 1 with a carlos sastre signature on it, a smiley face and a thanks. this number is given to the winner of the tour of the previous year. firstly to be given one as a gift is an honor, to wear it in the race demands complete respect. carlos is a champion and it was both an honor and privilage to be in a team captained by him.. although we didnt win with carlos i have to say i learnt a lot from this guy and i wish to one day follow the footsteps to the top of the podium like he did last year.

thats it on the tour, thanks to all your support. its been great hearing from you all.. i read everything and i appreciate all your comments.. now there is some down time for me, then it starts up again.. i will continue to update my website though so keep on reading!

Hey everyone, well Moses Roulston was born this afternoon at 2.58pm. Both Ange and Moses are doing great, happy and most importantly healthy. Moses wasnt as big as his father! weighing in just over 8lbs… Everyone is super happy and we cant say if he will be a cyclist yet cause he hasnt let his lungs roar with a cry. Been a great day here, one that will never be forgotten..

Funny though, we were only heading in for a checkup.. i didnt even shower nothing, just a quick check up.. boom gidday Moses! And that was monday!

Ill update the blog with the stage to paris when i have a chance.. Thanks all for your support. cheers.

Well when i wrote yesterday, i said i wanted 30mins start, i think i had about 3mins in the end, so it was better than nothing.. all i can say is what a climb, and what a race!

i knew that today there would be an easy break let go and as soon as i set foot out of the bus i knew i had to be in it! why? less stress as it was windy as, and also a few minutes buffer for the start of the climb which was enough motivation for anyone i reckon.

again i didnt have the legs i wanted, but i made do the best i could.. i just felt like i wasnt using my power for whatever reason. it was just strength. maybe i am a bit tired (strange!), or maybe the headcold has fully zapped me? or i can just blame it on the rest day present i received… wooden legs. anyway, i was in the break and that was step one completed. i just wanted to get to ventoux and take it from there. i knew i couldnt win the race with these legs but i did know that i could do an ok race and be pretty happy with it too.

we got to the climb after a very windy 140kms. it was hot and there were people everywhere. even the smaller climbs were jam packed. it was unreal but it was nothing compared to what lay ahead up ventoux. i feared i would get knocked off at stages as the spectators were going crazy and were all over the road, but man what a buzz it was.

i just set my own rythem from when the group split till the top of the mighty mountain. i felt ok and i was going nicely. it wasnt long till the favourites caught me and man that was a moment that will stay with me for the rest of my life. its one thing to see it on tv, but to actually witness these guys cruising up the climb was just unreal. i couldnt help but spur a few on, especially wiggo who i have the hugest amount of respect for. they caught me with 12kms to go and from there i just rode solid till the top.. when they had gone past i just had it in my mind to finish top 30. if i did that i would be a happy man. as i made my way up the climb not that many more passed me, which i was really suprised with and as the climb wore on i got stronger and i felt faster.. it was so open on the top, windy as..

i have got to thank the kiwi boys in their speedos who gave me a mighty push! that was unreal! i had to make out i was pushing you away too, but man i just wanted the push to keep on going! lol

there were alot of kiwis on the climb yet again which was unreal.. when i crossed the line at only 5mins down i had a huge amount of satisfaction inside knowing that i had only lost a few minutes to the hitters and i still classed my legs as being average. the short time i was with the favourites i just pictured myself there in a few years time taking it to them…

so now we have paris in our minds.. tomorrow morning at 8am we depart by train to the start.. then we do a lazy 100kms just relaxing, chatting and guess what… no hill to go over, and no hill start. you beauty! that means i can be last to the start line, and not the first. i dont have to have the last minute nervous pee or anything.. that is until the finale.. the stage is 160kms long and the last 60 will be raced full gas. there are valuable points up for grabs tomorrow for thor and cav for whoever is going to take out the green jersey.. we will do all we can for thor to be in green. he deserves it and i reckon we deserve another stage win.. so until then!
